Addison's funny sayings

Addison cracks me up with the things she says. And she's so serious, which makes it even more funny. So here are a few of my recent favorite sayings and some cute pics.

We were watching the CMA Awards. She and I moved into her room to go to bed and turned it on so we could watch. They were about to announce the Female Vocalist of the Year award and I left to go fold some laundry in the living room. They announced Miranda Lambert as the winner. Jason and I were commenting on that when Addison came down the hall and said, "Mommy, Miranda Lambert won!" and I said, "yes, I know". She looks up at our living room tv in amazement and asks, "Did she win on your tv too?!"

We were on the way to school and I was using the voice-to-text feature on my phone to send my boss a text message that I was running late. She heard me talking to the phone and asked what I was doing, so I explained. She asked me who my boss was and I told her "Ms. Justine. Do you remember her?". She said yes and then asked "Who is Daddy's boss?" I said Mr. Williams. She immediately said, "Who's his other boss?" I thought for a second and said "He only has one." Then I thought maybe she was referring to me being Daddy's boss, so I smiled and asked, "Do you mean who is Daddy's boss at home?" She said yes. I laughed and said, "Who do you think?" (Thinking she was going to say me). But she immediately says, "US!"

And Peyton has added "uh oh" to his vocabulary, which is really cute because he really emphasizes the "oh".

 

 

 

 

Enjoying Life!

It's been forever since I've posted and I just can't seem to keep up. I'm trying to remember all the daily little things that make me smile as I go along, so that I can share them with those of you who like to hear that sort of thing and don't get to see Addison & Peyton as often as you'd like.

So here's what I'm loving lately:

Looking in the rearview mirror to see one tiny hand reach over to a small outstretched hand and grab hold. Then they laugh uncontrollably at one another.

Hearing the excitement in Addison's voice as she teaches Peyton something new. I love how he mimics her every move and she thinks it's amazing. This morning, she taught him to scrub and clap on the way to school. She would scrub her hands together and he would too, then she would clap and he would too. Then they laughed together. So sweet!

Those little wobbly, unstable legs waddling across the floor precariously! Then he takes off and tries to run while grinning that adorable toothy smile.

When she reads a book to him and sings him a song.

Those snuggly good morning hugs from both and then they hug each other and pat each other on the back so gently.

How when he's doing something he shouldn't, he looks at me with that sly grin. Then he waits for me to react and tries to make a run for it.

He talks so sweetly in a language only he can understand.

He loves to look at his books and be read to.

 

It's been a while!

I've tried to jot down some of the awesomely adorable (and generally sassy) things Addison has been saying lately, but I've missed most of them. Some of these are from a few months ago, but I found the paper crumpled up in my purse and am trying to re-live the moments and share with you, along with some more recent ones.


One day after church, she told us that she learned about Jacob in Sunday school. I said, "Really, what did you learn about Jacob?" and she matter-of-factly stated "Jacob slept on a rock. And God is with us wherever we go." [Yes He is, darlin'... :)] Shout out to her Sunday school teachers, Ms. Shirley and Ms. Sara, and to Ms. Gwen, the children's church teacher. She loves them all and learns so much from them, which she passes on to us. A couple of weeks ago, they made a tent in Sunday school and learned about Aquila and Priscilla telling Apollos about Jesus. So in the tent, she had the cut out figures of Priscilla, Aquila, and Apollos. Every day since then, she has had that tent beside her bed and we have to bring them out of the tent during the day and put them back in the tent and close the doors at night so they can sleep. She also learned about Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego (wish you could hear her say those names!) in the fiery furnace. They made a fiery furnace that she brought home to show us. Every night, we have read that story in her children's Bible, followed by Daniel and the lions den. She has the stories memorized and likes to "read" them herself. She has a remarkable memory and knows them practically word-for-word. After that story is Jonah, which she has known verbatim for months now. And this week, we've added "The Brave Queen" (Esther), so she's memorized several in a row. It's funny because last night, she was playing with her dolls and the dolls were talking about who was "Jewish" and who was not (like Esther and Mordecai from the story).

Just this week, she was talking about Easter and I asked her if she knew what Easter was about. She said, "Jesus' birthday?" and I said no and told her that it's when we celebrate Jesus saving us by dying on the cross for us and becoming alive again. So she says "Mommy, how can someone come back alive?" and I told her that God made him come back alive. And she says, "Wow, that is so serious!".

Another day a while back, she was telling me about the Chick-Fil-A cow that she met at Open House night at her school. She was so excited that she got to meet the cow and have her picture made. As she recounted that night, she said, "I be'd scared of him a little bit but I liked him. At first I thought he was a monster." If only you could hear her cute little voice and see those adorable facial expressions while she's saying it...

Another day, we were getting ready to go somewhere (I don't remember where) and Addison says, "Daddy, you can't go, you have to stay home and clean the house, it's dirty. We are having girls only, so you have to stay here." I just about died laughing at that and I was so delighted that she chose him to clean the house instead of me! (Shows you who has been doing most of the cleaning lately...thanks, honey!) When he didn't comply with her demands, boy was he in trouble! She said, "Daddy, no sir! You are on the naughty list!" When he still did not comply, she went on to say, "Daddy, that's it, you lost your privilege. Mommy, put Daddy in time out. [To Daddy] You owe me 5 minutes! Sit up right now, criss cross applesauce, and no talking!" She really enjoys being the teacher so she can tell everyone else what to do, as you can tell. So, another time, we were in the car and she is telling Daddy what to do because she is the teacher and Daddy says, "No, I'm the teacher, remember?" and she replies, "Daddy you are only the teacher at your school. I'm the teacher at home." HA! Last one...Daddy burped at the table and she says "That is rude! Say excuse me! You are in big trouble. When you get done, you are going to time out!"

What's Peyton doing these days, you ask? He is growing up so fast (5 months now) and his favorite person is by far his big sister Addison. He watches her constantly and tries to get to her, laughing and smiling all the time. He loves to watch her dance around and sing and likes to be in her room looking around at every thing. She loves him too and frequently says that when he gets bigger he is going to be her boyfriend. When Peyton is a "good boy" she puts stickers on his car seat. He likes to look at them and she loves putting them there. Needless to say we are running out of room for the stickers. We are enjoying it while it lasts, because I suspect that as soon as he's able to move around on his own, he will get into EVERYTHING she has and drive her crazy!

He scoots around on his belly, but mostly backward. He's just started getting up on all fours and rocking, so he might be actually crawling soon! He loves to jump in the jumping thing that hangs from the doorway. He loves to grab anything he can get his hands on and puts everything mostly in his mouth. He's been eating cereal (rice and oatmeal) and has also tried some avocado, which he seems to like pretty well. This week we will try carrots that I made myself tonight! I am giving homemade baby food a shot...will see how it goes!  He is precious and we are all enjoying him so much.


  
 
 

Praying together

So tonight Addison blessed my socks off with her sweet prayers. Last night, we were talking about the North American missionaries we are praying for this week. I was telling her about the couple who was working with homeless people and I explained that homeless people didn't have a home. She said "that's terrible and horrible!" When she said her prayer, she asked God to help the people who didn't have a home. Then tonight, I was telling her about another missionary couple and she said she wanted to hear about the ones helping the homeless people again. So we talked about both of them and then said a prayer. She asked God to take care of them and called them each by their name and then asked him to take care of the homeless people too. Then we talked about people dying because I have been talking with her about Great-Grandma, who is going to be with Jesus soon in heaven. She was so sad to hear that and said that she was going to miss her and she didn't want her to go to heaven. Then she told me about two of her "work people", Laura and Banana (obviously made up) who had died. I told her we should say a special prayer for them so she prayed for her work people and I prayed for Great-Grandma. In her prayer she said, "Dear Lord, please take care of Laura and Banana in heaven and don't let their heart break. And don't let me die, because my Mommy would miss me. And let me control my temper." I had to laugh at that last part...at least she's listening when I talk. Thank you, Lord, for precious moments like these. I'm so thankful that I was blessed enough to be raised by Christian parents in a good and loving home. I know that everyone doesn't have that opportunity. I am so blessed to be raising my own kids in a loving Christian home and I am so fortunate to be doing so. I am so thankful for the opportunities I have had to grow in my faith and be surrounded by encouraging and strong believers. The biggest things that come to mind are: GAs and Acteens at Abney Memorial Baptist Church, Camp La Vida - which is by far the most memorable and where my relationship with God really started to develop, and BCM at Winthrop - where I was able to grow in many ways, particularly through serving as a short term missionary in Taiwan. I have had many wonderful friends and family members to support me along the way. However, I have a long way to go to be where God wants me to be in my daily walk. I'm also thankful to be a part of the encouraging community of Northside Baptist Church as my journey continues.

Such a good place to be...

Wow, Peyton is really growing fast! He is already turning himself over (both ways), grabbing at toys, and he's been holding his head up during tummy time for weeks. He loves his sister and always wants to watch what she is doing. He laughs out loud and smiles that sweet gummy grin that just melts your heart. He's growing up too fast for me because he doesn't want to be a baby! He won't hardly let you sit him down when you hold him because he wants to stand up. He even scoots a little bit on his belly when he's trying to get to something.

As I've been watching him grow over the past three months, I have been savoring every moment. I guess because I know he is our last baby and it has also made me think back to when Addison was that small and the cute things she did. She loves to hear me talk about "when she was a baby" and all the stuff she did. But I'm really enjoying where she is at right now too because she really is a neat kid and she is fun to hang out with. I learn something new from her every day. For instance, tonight she told me that she learned about spider monkeys at school today and that they howl when there is danger to let their other monkey friends know. She also shared with us this weekend about the animals that live in Australia-koalas, kangaroos, platypus, cuckaburra birds (I have no clue how to spell that) and the sounds they make.

I also love hearing her pray. She is so sweet when she talks to God about her friends, family, school, toys, etc. The other day, I couldn't help but smile when she was saying her blessing and she thanked God for "our savings." I didn't know what she meant at first until I realized she had heard me pray before thanking God for saving us. How cute. She is such a blessing to me because she helps keeps things in perspective. You never know when she's going to call you out on something!

She is a great big sister to Peyton too. She takes great pride and joy from helping to take care of him. Her big thing now is that she wanted us to move his car seat beside her so she can give him his pacifier when he cries. Oh, the little joys of motherhood! It's crazy how quickly these things slip away, so I'm trying to capture as many memories as possible. I haven't gotten as many videos of Peyton as I did Addison when she was a baby, but I really try hard to capture those moments. Peyton is a little camera shy though because when I get out the video camera, he stops doing whatever it was I was trying to get. Anyway, I just wanted to share those thoughts and a few pictures with you.

He's going to hate this when he's about 16, but he LOVES being in Addison's room! I think he loves all the bright colors. Here he is chillin' on her bed surrounded by a sea of pink and Tinkerbell. :)

Put on your dancin' shoes...

Addison has been asking about taking dance and of course, I have been in favor of her doing so. I've always wanted her to take dance, (preferably from my dance teacher, Ms. Earline, but we moved 2 hours away) I just wasn't sure which studio to put her in. I wanted her to be in a fun environment and not so much about competing, etc. so we just chose a tiny one nearby. She has really enjoyed the classes and meeting new friends and showing off what she's learned. She's a natural performer (imagine that). One thing that bugged me about all the dance studios here is that you aren't allowed to watch the classes at all. Not even through a window. I wanted to see what she was doing so badly. This studio has one week in the fall where friends and family can come in and watch the class, which also happens to be the last class before Christmas and they have a party. So here's some shots of her strutting her stuff in tap and ballet. I must say that the most exciting part for these little ones (if you haven't guessed) is wearing a pretty skirt with your leotard and tights. She has several new ones that she loves to take turns wearing.
